Nestled on a sunny plateau in the Bernese Oberland, Wengen is a beautiful car-free mountain village, with stunning views of the Jungfrau peaks and the UNESCO Lauterbrunnen valley below.
The charming village of Wengen is situated at 1274m (4180ft) and is reached by a cog railway approximately 12 minutes from Lauterbrunnen where there is a large car-park. In winter, there is an extensive ski area with over 200km of pistes, which include Wengen, Männlichen and Grindelwald where most of the runs are under the famous North Face of the Eiger, and across to Műrren where the cable car takes you up to Schilthorn home to Piz Gloria. There you can visit the revolving restaurant used in the James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
In summer, the beautiful area hosts hikers and cyclists. Or why not visit the Trummelbach Falls, or Stechelberg with the world’s steepest cable car, or for the more adventurous there is white water rafting and paragliding down in Interlaken.
